  John Baker founded Desire2Learn in 1999 at the age of 22, while still a Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo.
  John has built an incredibly passionate and talented team of over 575 employees focused on transforming the way the world learns. With people based in Canada, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, the US, and the UK, the company currently supports over 700 clients, and over 8 million learners in higher education, K12, healthcare, government and the corporate sector including the Fortune 1000. Desire2Learn has won a Deloitte Fast50 award in 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006 for 5-year rate of growth, won Top 50 Small to Medium Size Employers for 2011 and 2012, and achieved numerous other business and industry awards.

  John has won a Top 40 under 40 for Waterloo Region in 2009, has been inducted into the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame as an Intrepid Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009, won Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Waterloo Region in 2008, and received the University of Waterloo Young Alumni Achievement Medal in 2010.
